Sheba Diagnosis

Friday was overcast and cooler than it’s been for quite a while, but I took great joy in seeing my Camelia blooming its stunning, perfectly formed, bright pink blossoms. It’s uplifting to see everything growing again. I’m very excited about how things will look this year in the garden because as the plants mature, they are more luscious and are larger. Oh, I wish the heat would arrive instead of just Daylight Savings Time (tonight).

Our day was bland, but we did walk with our friends and all our dogs. It was great to be back with the pack. Our walk was about fifty minutes long and by the end I was a bit of a walking zombie. I walked alone for much of the last twenty minutes, too slow for those far ahead, and I felt tired for the remainder of the day. This is the new me: Elder Chris

In the early evening and was surprised and happy to hear from Thomas, out veterinarian. He had news. Sheba has an autoimmune disease. That’s why she is always going after her feet. The name had about a hundred syllables and so I cannot remember what the disease is called. I’ll find out on Monday when I go back to Thomas to fetch her pills. She’ll be taking an initial high dose of prednisone, and then we’ll taper off and hopefully protect her with a mild dosage. It’s sad news, but I’m looking forward to her having a better quality of life.

It's raining this morning, and dark. It’s a lovely day for staying in bed. I had a long morning visit from the Peregrine Falcon who has become a regular visitor to Pinecone Park. It is amazing to see so majestic a bird up close. Today will be a slow easy day, thanks to the rain.
