Friday dawned dark and wet. We bailed on walking with our friends as it was raining, and Grayson was due and I wanted to be ready and have the splitter all ready to go in case he wanted to use it to split the wood.
Grayson arrived right on time. He’s a bis strapping fellow who’s very warm and friendly. I couldn’t wish for an easier person to work with. He’s not just going to buck the fallen tree, he’s going to split and stack it. And… he’s going to split several of the rounds from two trees I had felled a couple of years ago. They are brutally big rounds, so he’s a brave man to take them on.
By noon, the sun was shining, and I was glad for Grayson. Who wants to work in the rain? Sheba and I got some outdoor time: She guarded Pinecone Park, and I cleaned up the shed. It was not easy. Just sweeping and bending to pick things up, tuckered me out completely. But no problem. I rest for a while and then get back to it. I like how tidy and clean the shed is again.
Grayson worked until 4:00. I’m rather amazed by what he was able to do in just five hours. He is coming back tomorrow. With all that he plans to do for me with the wood from felled trees, plus the three cords I’ve bought from Bob Rooks, I should be set for the Winter. And that’s my first year of not stacking the wood myself all sorted.
Dinner with the boys was great as it always is, but my truth is I could just as well have spent my night at home. These are my closest friends on the island, so I am sad to find that I’m moving away from people. I see Dr. Shoja on Tuesday; we’ll be talking about things like this then. One good thing, though, was how impressed everyone was with my cheesecake.
Sheba is a different dog. I can hardly wait for Monday when her dosage gets halved. She is lethargic, constantly drinking, and peeing—even in the house, but she is not chewing on her feet.
Today is dark and wet again. Grayson had plans to come back today, but perhaps he will bail as the weather is so nasty. I need today to be still and silent. I love being at home and warm and cozy on so wet and gloomy a day.
