Next Project: Check (?)

I don’t want to work on the script while it’s being evaluated and I’d rather work on my last dress for the eternal bridesmaid knowing it will be seen — if I can. So I wait and hope while the Arts Club ponders The Defiant Dress.
I really hope the ACT takes it because that would “take care” of that project and I could get on to my next idea which is to write a script about a taxidermist. It would enable me to make a whack of animals that, as with my dresses, are talismans of stories that the taxidermist could tell.
There is a huge full-page ad in this week’s Georgia Straight announcing that the Buddha Bar, a marijuana dispensary, is going “recreational.” That means a doctor’s prescription is no longer required at this dispensary that has very effective testing and evaluation practices. What a changed world.
Bruce is walking with a walker and he successfully got in and out of the car they use to test patient capacity to go on home visits. He’s speaking well and moving rapidly toward self-sufficiency. I suspect it won’t be too many weeks before he is going home and continuing his therapy on his own.

Relief

I went to bed feeling like I’d just got home from war.
I went to Dianne’s party. It was quite large and it took me quite a while to speak but I stuck it out and had a great time. I also stayed as long as everyone.
The party was the end of “the war:” Falling in the bathtub and hurting my back, doing a lot of driving and too many social engagements lately had overwhelmed me.
However, this morning I’ve really enjoyed a quiet morning at home. It’s done wonders for me and at noon I’ll have lunch with Dwight and then I’ll go — part way on foot — to see Bruce. I think a nice slow walk in the sunshine to will restore my soul. Plus, I have few engagements ahead so that is reassuring.
I feel “in control.” I went through such hope over the Arts Club and then such disappointment thinking I had not made it into their series. Now, as the new deadline approaches, I feel less emotionally at risk this time.

I Love Summer

I’m going to visit Bruce late this afternoon and then go to Dianne’s for her birthday dinner so I get most of the day here alone and that’s good. Tomorrow’s manageable too: I go to Christine and Mark’s studios where I thrive in the good company of fellow creators. Christine makes wigs for movies and plays — incredible, hair-by-hair creations and her studio mate, Patrick, makes the most beautiful clothes/costumes imaginable. He’s a master tailor and his work can evoke emotions in me like a van Gogh.
Saturday will be great: Either Dwight and I will go out and find a tree on which to mount the defiant dress or he will bail and I will have the day to myself. Either are welcome, however I treasure every moment with Dwight.
Monday the Summer Reading Week starts at the Arts Club. Sometime around July 21st to 24th, I will hear if my script is to be included in their ReACT Series. This experience has taught me how lovely it is to live with hope — the kind of hope that leads to pride, not recovery.
Our July Wholester event yesterday was really successful again. It was our fourth event; this time we decided to have a picnic at Third Beach in Stanley Park. People brought lots of great food (but not me); I had the picnic supplies and tablecloths. I was going to buy something at the concession but there was plenty of delicious stuff to eat. It was really fun!
