Friends for 74 Years

This is from 2018, but I still love seeing it every year.

Thursday was slightly overcast in the morning. I was grateful to be able to walk Her Highness without getting wet, and I was very grateful that Ethel was eating, grooming herself, and asking for attention. She has fully become herself again. I was also grateful to be loving the first of four books by Simon Mason that I bought. During these days of foul weather, it is comforting to know that I have books (and my electric blanket) with which to very happily pass some time.

It stayed dry and reasonably bright all day. We walked at Elder Cedar in the early afternoon, and in the 707 Park late in the day. I snacked throughout the day, eating more in one day than I have in weeks.

The highlight of my day was a Zoom call with Kathy and Susan. Susan and I have been friends since we were four years old. She lived down the street, and we have stayed friends all through our lives. We met Kathy when we started Junior High School in West Vancouver, and when we started having reunions of our class of 1965, we rediscovered Kathy and the three of us have been meeting or Zooming ever since.

It's fun to remember our friends and things done so very, very long ago. It’s amazing to be able to say to Susan that we have been friends for 74 years. I was flooded with good feeling when we said goodbye. And then it was time for the chaise, a movie and a snack. Because I’d been snacking all day, I had no meal for dinner, just another snack.

I shall return to my disciplined life today and I’ll be doing lots more reading because it’s nasty out there. But we’ll walk with our friends this morning, hopefully before the rain starts.
