Sheba is Shining!

Thursday began with a short walk, and then we went into the village. We did the same walk later in the day, I read, we ate, I wasted time on the computer, and that compulsion just got better/worse.

I’ve long enjoyed YouTube for entertainment. I subscribe to two channels; both are about fellows renovating old farm buildings into their home. One guy’s in Italy, and the other home is being done-over by a charming young gay couple and the parents of one of the young men. But I also like medical procedures, anything about geology, the Grand Design programs, etc. Well, now I watch them on my TV. It’s so great! (I never watch TV during the day unless I am feeling poorly.)

I’m itching to get outdoors and start raking the yard, but now I’ll be working with a chair. I’m going to always have a chair nearby when I am gardening so that I can rest when I need to. Henri will work on the gardens, while I focus on raking and watering.

The best thing about yesterday was going to sleep listening to the rain beating down on the metal roof.  I was born here in Rainland; the sound of falling rain lives in my soul.

Another good thing that happened yesterday was our trip to the vet’s. When Sheba started on prednisone, she was on 50mgs a day, 25 in the morning, and 25 at night, and it made her a deadly lethargic zombie. This past Sunday, the daily dose was halved to 25mgs per day, and that reduction allowed her personality to return. She’ll continue with that dosage until Tuesday, but then on Wednesday, she’ll begin a month taking just 15mgs a day. Since beginning treatment, she’s left her feet alone and they have all fully recovered.

When I moved to Nice, I made a friend of another fellow new to living in Nice. His name was Antoine.  And not long into my residency there, I moved in with my French teacher, her husband and her two kids. I met the extended families and friends of these people, and one outcome of my stay there was a deep respect for war veterans and all those suffering the loss of a family member or beloved friend.

When I was young, as I’ve mentioned here before, two books made a very strong impression that had a life-long effect on me. One was Let’s Do Better a cartoon book about the folly of war, and Herbie a cartoon strip in book form about the horrors of life on the front line.

I went to concentration camps while in college, and I took psych courses, and one interest was why people flock to evil leaders. Hitler was on my mind. I concluded that the angry, the rejected, and the desperate found these leaders appealing and formed the membership of the party. Trump and the whole MAGA thing are bringing all that I learned about and feared about people flocking to support an evil man back to life—and it’s happening right next door to us! Fuck!

Today began with a tropical downpour but my 7:00 there were clear skies everywhere and I’m glad because Grayson is coming back today. We’ll be walking with our friends this morning and then coming home to chat with Grayson before he gets underway.
