Wow, that prednisone is a miracle drug. I walk quicker, tire far less easily, and have much more energy. However, yesterday was my last day on the drug, so now I will see if the effects last. Or perhaps I will hear about these shots I am potentially going to get. Fingers crossed for more news.
We walked in spectacular morning sunlight light and enjoying the wonderful fragrances of the forest. I walked briskly, finally I’m able to keep up with Her Highness. And when we were done, we hurried home because I was most keen to get to work on the courtyard and deck. I cleaned up all the cracks between the paving stones and then swept up all the detritus for deposit in the backyard dumping area.
Next up was getting my outdoor furniture outside and into place. That was slow going because the chairs and table are heavy, and I didn’t want to overdo things. Plus, cleaning the deck was exhausting as I was also clearing all the needles from between the planks so that the wood won’t rot. It is wonderful to see the yard look so much more inviting and festive with the furniture out. Now, when Ali and Pete drop by, I have a place outdoors to serve them the tea they love so much.
One thing nice is that my weedwhacker and leaf blower (a small quiet one) both need to recharge and so that imposes a break on me that I appreciate. The worst part of working now is not my breathing, but my back. I bought a back brace but can’t find it. Tonight, I will do a thorough search for it.
But on, Pinecone Pak is looking good! I may be writing that every day. And it’s just the beginning of May. I have months of wonderful weather to pay attention to the details and, of course, for lots and lots and lots of watering.
Once finished with the courtyard and the deck outside my back doors, I got to work on the new Deer fence for the Horse Chestnut. I left the other half of the back deck to do, the part outside the dining room, until my back recoverd and the blower recharged. As I was working on it, Nancy came by and helped me. It was hard to pound rebar with my maul into the ground and hold onto it, so I held, and Nancy pounded.
As I was cleaning up, I heard a lot of noise in the street, so I went to see what it was, and it was my handsome nice neighbour on a ride upon lawn mower, and he was mowing all the medians on our end of the street. It made the street, and our houses look so smart to have the median all clean and neat. I love this place!
I figured I’d accomplished enough for the day, after all it was My Day, so at 3:15, I left with Her Highness to walk the Elder Cedar trail. I love how flat it is and Sheba loves the availability of nice cool running water in the stream.

Have you noticed? This past Winter I had little to say here. So many posts were about having “just another Winter day.” Now look at how much I’m writing, and it’s all due to the warm, wonderful, bright, sunny weather. Prednisone and sunshine are my idea of a perfect life.
I’m stoned on how wonderful Pinecone Park looks. I’m stoned on wonderful weather and being outside and seeing neighbours. The park is full of colour. It has never looked to good, and soon I’ll have the yellow of pendulous blossoms of the Laburnum and the fragrances of Lilac and Mock Orange adding sensual thrills to the park.

Late in the afternoon, I took these photos of the backyard at Pinecone Park. With the ground green, it looks so lovely and rich, but soon all the ground will be yellow/brown. This is my playground. My yard very rarely has visitors so it’s my private little park.
Remember, not a single plant that you see in these photos existed when I moved here. There was no fence, no paving stones, no rockeries, no trellis, and the studio roof had collapsed. I thought my creativity had died. I had no interest in crafting or drawing, but now I realize gardening is my creative outlet.
