BOOM!

Today there will be no explosions. It's Sunday.
Across the street, half a block away, they are digging a hole where they will be erecting a sixty-story building. They started last June and they are still digging. During the last few days of last week, ten times a day, I’d hear beep-beep-beep, a high pitched tone ringing about ten times, and about thirty seconds later there’d be an explosion. They are deep into hardpan.
The other sound that comes out of the hole is a God-awful sound like some super giant that holds up our tectonic plate is being killed. It’s a horrible sound; it sounds like some building-sized metal thing is being dragged across concrete.
But it will be quiet today. (I’ve been up since 3:30 am to enjoy it. I went to bed early last night, exhausted from doing errands and a major clean up all day.)
