Caging Blueberries

Wednesday began with a walk with our friends. I am particularly close to Regina, who got out of her car, came towards me weeping, and hugged me. She has recently left her husband of 40 years and he’s not being kind, plus she’s finding it hard to be alone. I comforted her and when others arrived, I made jokes that got Regina laughing.

When the walk was over, Her Highness and I went shopping for supplies in the village, and then we came home to eat. Our local pet food store is closing, sad to say, but the owners are jerks, and they don’t really care about us on Gabe. They live in Vancouver. So, more trips to Nanaimo are in my future.

When we got home, it was lunch time and then I got busy with the netting around the blueberries. I thought it would be a simple task that went quickly, but it wasn’t. I was working in the direct sunlight, so I got hot and tired, but I made some good progress. There are only the tops of each cage to do, plus one side of each one. The last side I’ve to do is one that must be able to be opened so that I can pick the berries, and that’s a bit of an engineering problem for me to solve. I have an idea of how I am going to do it, and that’ll be my project for today—that, and watering of course! But today is overcast, so there’s no hurry to water.

Mid-afternoon, high and thin clouds rolled in, so I took Her Highness for a walk and called it quits for the day. Oh, how I love my evenings. The pets are happy on their own, and I can totally relax. It’s especially nice to relax after a day of modest accomplishment.

All day, every day this week, I am coming in to check my emails. I keep hoping that I’ll hear from Julie about a date for my first shot. I’m coughing more and more, and its changing from dry to wet, so I’m keen to get started on Tezspire. But so far, no word at all. But hey, I know it is coming at some point, so there’s no stress anymore.

Pete and Ali are due here shortly. I am driving them to the ferry terminal and on the way home, I’m stopping in at the lumber yard to see what I can see there to use to complete the enclosure of the blueberries. If I find something that’ll work, I’ll get it and try to complete the job today.
