Good Work for SPACE Day

I add copper sulphate to the fire sometimes to entertain guests with the beautiful blue and green flames it makes. This is how the aurora gets its colour too, from minerals in the air.

Thursday was a great day for two reasons: I was over my reaction to the shingles vaccine, and I worked much of the day on SPACE working on the organization’s application for charitable status with the CRA. I have more SPACE work to do today and I’m looking forward to doing it.

When Aidan explained what he wanted done, I was nervous. It meant working in two programs that were new to me, and I reckon that Aidan’s instructions were hard for me to follow. He is very familiar with both programs and his explanation felt incomplete to me because he was too familiar with the programs. However, once I started on the work, I found my own way of doing what he wanted using one program with which I was familiar.

Yesterday was the kind of support and work I wanted to do for Aidan. I felt great getting it all done so quickly. He had a busy day yesterday. I know because early in the day I texted him asking for a two-minute conversation, but his day was back-to-back meetings. When one meeting ended early, he called to say that he’s write out all the instructions I needed, but I finished the work before he started writing them out. I saved him a lot of time yesterday and that’s exactly why I got involved in SPACE. I wanted to provide practical support to him.

It was a lovely day yesterday. It was overcast in the morning, but sunny all afternoon. We walked twice, of course, but both walks were short because my bone spur foot was throbbing with pain. It’s better this morning because of a long sleep last night, so I’m going on the group walk this morning with our friends. When I get home, I’ll be finishing the last task Aidan asked me to do.

On Wednesday, when I felt so poorly, our group walked together, but I told them I was sick and couldn’t join them. I told them that my problem was a shingles vaccine and nothing serious, but Dona came by the house to check on me, and they were all willing to help me with dog walking, shopping or bringing me a meal. I was touched and it made me very happy about living on Gabe.

It’s cold this morning because the sky is clear, but it’s going to be very mild this afternoon, so we’ll enjoy our two walks today. Here are some recent photos:

Bracken Ferns are lovely even in death. These are
the ferns we have on the island that die in Winter.
Our Sword Ferns are evergreen.

When we walk the Elder Cedar trail. we begin by
forging the stream on these stepping stones. When
we get atmospheric rivers, we cannot cross here as
the water ruches over the stones.

We have giant Maples scattered throughout the forest.
This one is a beauty in Summer. It grows beside the air
phone we have in the 707. Air phones began in Japan;
they are not connected to anything. They are just there
for people to 'talk' to their departed friends and family.

Berries provide the colour in the forest.

Her gorgeous Highness.

Losing the sofa was such a smart move. I love the spaciousness of
my grand room now.

The stream in Elder Cedar.

Fucking blogger is making it extremely difficult to
upload photos and add text. Damn! I love it in the
forest when suddenly there is a lovely tiny meadow
of moss.

This is a stump I always clean of debris, It is a lovely
little garden we pass as we walk the 707 trails.

This is the best fish dish that I have ever made. It's Cod
with crushed pistachios on top and the most delicious
sauce underneath. This dish will be made many times.

It's like forest lettuce, this whatever it is.

This tree is covered in lichen, giving it a
beautiful and eerie look.
