Sore Walking

Friday began very early. I was up and on my feet at 4:30 to feed the pets and light the fire. After I’d eaten, I got busy with the SPACE application for charitable status. I worked on that right up until the last minute when I had to leave to meet our friends to walk in the 707 Park bathed in glorious, warm sunshine.

When we were done, I came home, finished the SPACE work and got busy with the kind of thorough cleaning one does as Spring cleaning. I cleaned things that often I ignore. I cleaned the floor behind and under furniture, washed rugs, and swept the exterior walls around the front door to remove all the cobwebs. And then I did all the regular cleaning, keeping busy until 13:00 when I rested. And oh, it felt so good to sit down and take the weight off my aching left foot.

I returned to tidying and cleaning duties after my rest. I did all the recycling sorting and bagging that I’d been putting off for months, and then Her Highness and I went for a walk along the Elder Cedar trail while it was still beautifully bright and sunny. On route, I passed a couple walking their dog. That’s common, but the fellow was walking barefoot, and that’s odd! I was glad to get home because by the end of our walk, my left foot was killing me. For Happy Hour, I had ibuprofen.

Jennifer, my nurse practitioner, sent in a request for me to have a steroid injection in my foot last August. She said it might take a while so, five months on, I am not surprised I’ve heard nothing from the hospital. But I will, and although the idea of a needle into my foot sounds dreadful, I’m keen for the relief it may bring. The relief will not last, however, and then I’ll be on another waiting list.

What a pleasure it was to return from our walk to so clean a house. I feel very good when all is in order. I immediately built up the fire because the house was cool. I’d let the fire go out. And I was done for the day. I climbed onto the chaise and noticed how many windows needed cleaning, but that will happen today. Late afternoon yesterday was for resting after a good day’s work.

The evening was, of course, the usual. I’d planned on making a nice stir fry, but I was too pooped, so I had a very simple meal and got comfortable watching a movie. And what a movie I watched. A period piece featuring Colin Firth, Josh O’Conner, and Olivia Coleman…how could I not love Mothering Sunday! Well, it’s possible. The movie kind of bored me, I’m sad to say.
