I'm Moving to This Cottage

I wrote to the Telus Referral System Tuesday to ask a question. I wanted to know if banks, accountants, doctors, pharmacists, and other professionals who deal with confidential issues are obligated to speak about my affairs with Referral operators. They are not, so I am forced to find work arounds for dealing with each one of these essential services and it pisses me off.

I regret that the legislation that obligates communication providers to have a referral system did not include text that requires professionals dealing with personal concerns to engage with Referral operators. Twenty percent of the population are people with hearing loss; only 3.5% of the population are visually impaired and the figure is the same for non-verbal people. Being part of such a small percentage of the population means I’m not holding my breath waiting for systemic change.

But I got some good news On Tuesday. The Canadian Stuttering Association had a name I could not speak, and it really pissed me off that a stuttering support organization chose a name that the people they intend to serve cannot say. Well, they have changed their name. They are now Can Stutter, and I am thrilled but….

Can Stutter hosts an annual conference that I would love to attend, but every year the conference is in eastern Ontario or further east than that. Until they host a conference out west, they are not a truly national organization. Unfortunately, they are not well funded, and they are a volunteer organization, so my criticism of their failure to serve us out west must be tempered. I am on a mission to make them, help them, reach out to the west. I’ve been back and forth-ing with Catherine the board chair of Can Stutter.

Tuesday was foggy. It didn’t rain and it wasn’t cold, but it felt gloomy and wintery. We walked bright and early and then, when we got home, Her Highness slept while I worked on revisions to the SPACE bylaws. Soon, it was time to go to the medical clinic and get my vaccination for shingles. After receiving it, we went into the village to shop.

Once back home, I could relax. I love being warm and cozy with a book or a movie when outside looks so uninviting. After starting to watch Heated Rivalry in the afternoon, we went for our second walk of the day before returning home for dinner and for me, binge watching HR

Wednesday was, as predicted, a down day. I stayed in bed until 9:00. I got up at 5:00 to feed the pets and light the fire, then I went back to bed. When I rose at 9:00 it was to walk with Sheba before coming home for more bed rest that went on until noon. I ached all over and I felt very, very sluggish.

At noon, I got up and stayed up so that I would be reasonably alert when Aidan called at 13:00. Our call went okay and by the end I was feeling more alert. After our talk, I took Sheba for her afternoon walk, and then I came home to Zoom with Sue, my respiratory therapist. And when that was done, I was ready for the chaise, but not bed. I felt much better.

I went to bed at 20:00 because I couldn’t stay awake any longer. Consequently, I was up at 4:30 this morning. In fact, we all were. I guess when I make everyone turn in early, everyone rises early. Fred was singing at the top of his lungs by 4:45 this morning.

First thing this morning I lit a big blazing fire. I didn’t have much in the way of heat yesterday because I felt so punk, all I did was stay in bed or under the electric blanket. But today, we get warm!! I have SPACE homework to do today, otherwise, I will chill and we will walk. It’s predicted to be sunny and warm for the coming week! Hurray! We’ll have some lovely walks together.
