Friday dawned bright and sunny, and I was out shortly after rising and feeding the brood to water the backyard beds. They were very thirsty. I had a hoodie over my head and was thoroughly covered because there are mosquitoes in the morning (but at no other time of day). It felt good to get the entire backyard done before going to walk with our friends.
After the walk, we came home, and I got started on watering the edible garden and front trees and beds. My plan was to get all that done before lunch so that after lunch I could chill a bit in the sunshine and then do some raking. The front yard, the edible garden and the former wasteland remained in need of cone and twig removal.
My back is my biggest problem now. Fuck, I hate being old. I didn’t last more than 10 minutes on the recliner in the sunshine. I wanted to do something, so I got up and my feet were saying NO, NO, NO! And suddenly I had an idea: Given that this island is peopled by nothing by oldies almost, I figured either North Road Sports, our outdoor clothing store, or Colleen’s, our eclectic store of clothing, kitchen supplies and Irish imports, might have compression socks, so off I went into the village.
Hurrah! Colleen’s had compression socks, and not only that, they carry the highly recommended SockWell socks, so I got a pair and I’m going back to get another pair today because these compression socks rock. They really work.
It’s Saturday again, and it’s brilliant and sunny. I’m going to The Surf for breakfast with Kelly and Jay. I haven’t seen either of them for ages, and I’m taking lots of books for Kelly who loves detective novels. On my way home, I’ll stop by the farmers’ market and get some food from Kenny for the weekend, and then I’ll come home to rake and tote.
