Thursday, the sun was back, and I had a quiet day to look forward to. My only thing to do yesterday, was to host Sandi who came for her turn to tour my garden. I spent the early morning tidying the house, and then I took Her Highness for our morning walk—she, wearing a sock on one foot, and me hobbling on two very swollen feet. (I’ve ordered compression socks from Amazon.)
I had a lovely long soak in the spa early in the morning. I felt refreshed by the cleanse and after a calm, uplifting walk in the forest. When we got back, I had some tidying to do in the yard in advance of Sandi’s visit. And then we had lunch, and it felt very, very good to be off my feet.
It’s my lower back, however, that forces me to stop working now. Not my shortness of breath. Thank God nothing hurts when I must water the beds. I worked in 15-minute shifts, taking a break after each one to let my back re-set. I just kept at it, and now Pinecone Park is looking pretty good for Sandi’s visit.
The former Wasteland needs a major clean up. I need to rake up all the cones and tote them to the organic dump. And the same goes for the front yard and edible garden. They’ll likely be done this weekend. And I’ve begun cutting holes in the lower section of the wire deer fences surrounding my trees in the front yard so that I can reach in to pull the weeds that thrive there where there is always water.
After lunch, I picked a large bowl of raspberries, and I whipped up some sweet whipping cream to dollop on top of the berries when I serve them to Sandi with tea after we tour the garden. And then, rest.
Sandi arrived on schedule, and we enjoyed a wonderful short afternoon visit together. She took some cuttings from my garden, and brought me some from hers, bless her. It was really fun, and she was impressed by many of my plants and efforts.
Last night, we walked at 8:15. It was a beautiful time of day to walk, yet I’ve never done it before. Sunset, and last night we had a classic golden evening, lighting up the tall grasses that have changed from green to yellow. I could smell the earth on the hot Summer night, just as on some nights when there’s a north or north-west wind, I can smell the sea. It was quiet and still as we walked, and no one at all was around. On the way back, a slight evening breeze had begun, and we walked in the sweet spicy fragrance of Ocean Spray. All in all, a perfect walk on a perfect night.
Today is sunny again. I shall do serious watering, yard work and go shopping, but most of all I’ll enjoy having an entire day to myself.

The only reason Pinecone Park is looking so good is because the best thing that I can do to manage my mental health is to stay home. The need to be here means that I have a lot of time to devote to yard and garden work. Even at my show pace, I am keeping up.
