Thursday went as planned. I lazed away the early morning and then Sheba and I went for a very early walk in the Elder Cedar grove where it is so lovely and cool any time of day. With ibuprofen and a walking stick, I did the walk with less pain than ever before since the onset of bursitis.
Then we came home to fetch my wallet, and we went into the village to shop. When I got home, I video chatted with Steve about where I would pick him up on Friday at 12:40. He’s arriving at the Departure Bay ferry terminal by bus from Victoria where he has been staying for the past four days with our friends Don and Fernando.
I napped after lunch and then got busy watering all the backyard plants. They will have a tough day tomorrow without me monitoring them. Thankfully, cloudy periods are forecast, so I’m lucky. If I do some thorough watering before I leave at 10:00 am, I’m optimistic all will go well.
At 3:00, I began watering the front yard in advance of Colleen’s arrival at 4:00. I was happy to see that the raspberries are slowing down. There are still many blueberries left that, I’m sure, Steve will pick and eat, but finally, the raspberries are over, and I can cut down the old canes.
Colleen and I toured the yard and settled on her coming next week, but I reckon I’ll be cancelling our plan before she comes. She’s a lovely person, and her two kids are spectacularly cute, but I don’t think she’s looking to me for direction and I want someone like Bronwyn who tells me what I need to do. Sigh. I hate feeling I must undo our arrangement.

I got up early this morning. I have strategic watering and chores to do before we leave to meet Steve in Nanaimo later this morning. There’s no sign of the predicted clouds, but I’m sure all my plants will survive the day. I’m looking forward to reuniting with Steve and I’m very excited about finally getting my first shot of Tezspire 14 months, almost to the day, after noticing that I was very short of breath when I tried to walk to Pete and Ali’s place.
Here are some shots I took on last night’s walkabout:
The entrance to my backdoor. Fuchsia land.
This magnificent beastie is stunning. I love this plant; I take special care of all my fuchsias over the winter. I keep them in the studio.
These blue geraniums thrill me and the bees.
I have many Hydrangeas. I love them!
This Oak Leaf Hydrangea is lovely and fragrant.
This beauty is a favourite. It's HUGE!
The bed under the trees is thriving!
