From the moment I awoke Monday morning I was feeling very good. Pinecone Park is looking majestic, and I’m very excited about Steve seeing it and later, having the boys over to see it as well. And today I’ll harvest a ton of blueberries with which to make a pie or tart for Steve’s arrival.
It’s another lovely morning. We walked with our friends for as long as my foot could stand it, then we came home to water, harvest and chill. I’m excited about this whole week because it begins with two days of me being alone all day, and then, on Wednesday, I have an appointment with Dr. Dorscheid to talk about my breathing test results and Tezspire, and then on Thursday, Colleen comes to see my garden beds and talk about the things that she can do for me. And finally, on Friday, Steve arrives at 1:30 and then I go to the infusion clinic to learn how to give myself my Tezspire shots at 5:00, and I administer my first shot!
After our walk, we went into the village to shop and to pick up a TAP form that gives me free ferry access on Friday because of my medical appointment. Then I came home to feed everyone. After she eats, Sheba always wants out for a drink, so I let her out and after a few minutes I heard her barking.
I ran outside to stop her, because she has a loud low bark and it can scare people, but she was barking at Alwyn and Deborah. I had just learned that they both went to Emily Carr and so I told them I had taught there, and we fell into a lovely conversation. Then Pete and Ali came by, and we were four having a nice confab in the shade of a large Fir on my property. Next came Dave in his ’55 Chevy, and he had plums for us.
The six of us talked for about 15 minutes and then I had to get off my feet, and so everyone disbursed, but those fifteen minutes were one big reason I love living here. I love the short impromptu conversations that I have with my neighbours. It feels to wonderful and healthy to have such a great neighbourhood.
Then came major watering of all the backyard beds. After that, I took in the laundry and fed a hose to one thirsty tree to soak its soil thoroughly. And while the tree drank, I rested before taking Her Highness for our afternoon walk. Once back, it was time to water the front bed, the front yard trees, and the edible garden before feeding the brood, making my dinner and hitting the chaise for the night.
For Beth: I watched and really liked a movie called The Ballad of Wallace Island. I rented it off pay TV. I chose to watch it because Carey Mulligan was in it, and I love everything she does. But I also liked that it was set on a remote island, but I did not expect so compelling a movie. There is one reason (besides Carey Mulligan) for my love of this film, and that is the actor Tim Key.
Mr. Key plays Charles, a reclusive lottery winner with tons of cash that he uses to bring his favourite fold duo from way, way back to his island to play a concert for him, and Time Key brings such life, such warmth and humanity to his character. Everyone is deliciously good, but he provides a masterclass in character building. I love this man/actor!

Today is, again, sunny and bright, and although there is naught but sunshine in the forecast, we are going to have very comfortable temperatures. It is going to stay in the low-to-mid twenties. Hooray! My plan is to harvest blueberries this morning after our walk, and then to water the garden beds and to do some shopping. And that’s it.
