In the cool of morning, I was baking. I got started at 6:30 making blueberry tarts for my dinner with Ursula, Sarah, Dave and Gray. We had a barbeque at their place last night. And once the baking was done, I raced to the trail at the end of the street with Sheba to walk her and get home before Ralf arrived to do more yard work for me.
Just before leaving, I took the tarts out of the oven, and I’m pleased with how they look. I just made up this idea to mix the blueberries with some lemon zest and bake them in little crude baskets of puff pastry. I bought the pastry because I’m too busy to make it.
Our walk was lovely. I walk keeping my left foot locked in position. I don’t use my Achillies tendon for fear of the lump growing again. I ice it now and I put my foot up whenever I take a rest from working. When we got back, no Ralf, so we waited until 10:45 to leave in case he arrived. He was due at 9:30.
I went into the village, and it was booming. I can’t remember ever seeing so many people on the street ever before. It was the same at the market. It was very, very crowded and exciting. I loved it and wish I had stayed longer, but I went to the Commons to see what was going on at the Bahkti Festival. Well, it was not for me. I was the only person there with a dog, and everyone else was lotusing on the grass while very ethereal Indian music played.
When I got home, just before noon, Ralf had just arrived. Better late than never, and there’s plenty of time for him to do the work I want him to do. He is a sweet charmer. I like him a lot and I’m glad to be putting cash into his hands.
As he got started working, I came indoors to feed the pets and have my lunch. Then, after a brief rest to get my feet up, I got busy watering the plants. I kept Ralf busy doing things that I could do, but I valued having him do it so that I could spend the coming week before Steve’s arrival, attending to details.
Pinecone Park has never looked as good as it does now, and soon the garden beds will look even better once Colleen gets started. She contacted me and is coming here on Thursday for a walkabout with me. It’ll be like having Bronwyn again, but Colleen is far, far more professional with her communications.
At 3:15, I bid Ralf adieu. He has done everything I wanted done and now it’s easy for me to maintain order until there is a storm and the yard gets inundated with more crap. But Ralf knows what to do now, and where everything is, so I will bring him back if a Summer storm wreaks havoc with my sanctuary.
At 5:00, I loaded up the open face tarts I made and headed over to Ursula and Dave’s for dinner. What fun to have dinner with people I really like and trust. I’m a big fan of Ursula and Dave, and I adore Sarah and Grey. I quite love being with young people who are adept at relating to ancients like me.
One thing nice about going next door for a barbeque, is that Sheba can come and hang with us outdoors and that means I didn’t feel compelled to walk her in the afternoon. That will give my heel more time to heal. (A double helix.)
Dinner was good and bad. The food was fabulous, and the company was excellent, but I talked way too much, perhaps because I could, and perhaps because I talk to little from day to day. I will apologize to them today.
It’s cloudy, and it’s My Day. I shall water the plants and chill all the rest of the day. It’s likely to clear later this morning.
