Well, Monday was rather good. It was hot (32° at 18:00), but there was wind blowing all day. The wind began Sunday afternoon, so after a day and a half of high winds, there is forest fall everywhere, and it’s windy again today.
Leaves are falling or changing colour. Trail walking is noisy as dry leaves crunch underfoot. The ground is golden brown; the tall grasses have fallen over and made a straw carpet in the meadows. I can smell how dry it is; it’s a lovely evocative Summer smell that can take me into reveries of childhood summers.
I invited my friends to join me on a walk that was new to them yesterday morning. It’s a trail that I have walked very, very often. It was an hour of walking, on a lovely flat trail. Only Dona and Di joined me with Charlie and Hank; the rest of the group was busy. They enjoyed the walk and really were happy to see new things. I was pointing out trees, plants, rocks and seed heads as we walked.
I putzed around the house until lunchtime once we returned from our walk. I fed everyone, took a short nap, and then watered every bed and tree in the yard. I’ve a new routine. I water starting at around 14:00, so I finish around 16:00, and that is perfect timing for our afternoon walk and then dinner and a movie.
My phone is due to arrive today, and the SIM card is on its way as well. David is coming her on Friday to get everything synched and working. As I write this post, it’s only 10:00 and it’s already 30°. It’s going to be another scorcher of a day. Sigh. But we’ll be cool if we stay in the shade and indoors as much as possible. They wind is weak today, so it could get very hot.
Jake, the appliance repairman I adore, is coming back to fix my fucking freezer again. Every three days, I must empty it, clean off the ice off everything, wipe down the surfaces, and heat the gasket with a hair dryer. I’m fed up, so excellent Jake is coming with a new gasket.
Life is good. Gardener Colleen comes tomorrow and I’ve a long list of things for her to do. I’m very keen to fertilize everything, and to have her clean up some of the beds. Come. Friday, rain! Hooray!!
