wednesday
Wednesday began well because it felt a lot cooler and far less humid. The wind was only a whisper. I did laundry and hung it on the line, sorted recyclables and put the garbage out for collection, cleaned the cattery, and caught and released a bat before Sheba and I headed out to meet our friends for a morning trail walk together. The bat was my third such houseguest, but the first one that I have easily caught and released.
We went shopping and when we got back home it was time for lunch. I fed the brood and then had a nap before attending to the watering. It takes two hours to water everything thoroughly, so it was time for out afternoon walk by the time I finished watering. And then, of course, dinner, the chaise and a movie.
thursday
Thursday dawned overcast, dark and cool. Rain is due tonight and tomorrow, so I didn’t water yesterday except for some floral friends fading. I harvested blueberries, I had a Zoom meeting with my STAMMA colleagues, and I got started raking up all the forest fall from the past several days of strong winds.
Just before noon, the SIM card arrived via Fedex, so I am all ready for my meeting today with Dave the computer consultant. He came at noon to get my phone up and running and synched with my computer. And not just Dave is coming by today. Jake is coming early in the morning to get my freezer working properly.
When Fedex left, I got back to raking up the yard. I also cleaned up the courtyard, but I didn’t do any toting. I think that I may have Ralf come back to do the toting and the balance of the raking, but Pinecone Park is a little more presentable for Bruce’s visit thanks to my modest clean up. When I was done with the courtyard, I was ready for a nap.
And then … and then …. the sun came out. Damn! I had to water the most exposed plants and when I was done, it had clouded over again renewing my hope that heavy rains were on their way. I didn’t water the front beds, nor did I water the edible garden beds, but rain remained predicted for last night and today.
I got a phone message that I could not understand. Not a single word was comprehensible, but I was able to see the number on my phone, and I knew it was the fusion pharmacy calling and probably to set up a day for me to receive my next dose of Tezspire. I called them and my first ‘stay at home’ day is August 20th. I must stay home until the medicine arrives via Fedex and I must put it directly into the fridge when it arrives. I will give myself the shot on the 22nd.
At 15:00, we went for our afternoon walk. My left foot was absolutely killing me. Until it is better, we are only walking locally, and our walks are short. Today, I’ll try the crutches again. When I first tried them, I gave up because my arthritic hands were hurting more than my foot. But we walked, and that is a good thing. And even better, as we walked, I felt drops of rain. It was barely raining, but the few drops filled me with hope.
friday
It rained real rain last night, and at 8:30 this morning, just as Jake was leaving after attending to my fridge’s freezer, it started again in earnest! I’m so happy to not have to water anything today. Jake came at 8:00 and he’s made an improvised attempt to stop the ice build-up. If it works, great. If not, he’ll be back to install a different device to thicken the gasket, and if that fails, he’ll install a new gasket. He’s a fine guy, and I love chatting with him!
Because of the rain and Jake being here, we’re didn’t walk with our friends and their dogs. I decided to wait for a break in the weather to take Her Highness out on the trails.
At noon, Dave will be here to activate my cell phone. That’ll be interesting, and then we’ll likely chill through a dull and damp afternoon.
