It was feckin’ zero degrees yesterday morning when I got up! I knew it was cold as soon as I slid out of bed. I got right back into my nice warm nest with Her Highness, but when I was finally ready to face the day, the first thing I did was light the fire. Then I got busy.
I wanted to do all the dishes, clean up the kitchen and walk Sheba before Jake and Noor arrived to fix the stove and before the fellow who services my water system came to change my water filters. I got home from the walk mere minutes before Jake got here just before 9:00.
Once everyone was hard at work, I got on the phone to call the asthma clinic because I’ve been trying to see my asthma doctor for 3 months and getting nowhere. Yesterday, I called myself rather than using the Telus Referral Service, and I stuttered my way through the call.
I wrote here about how the clinic had failed to make my annual appointment with me, and that when I finally connected with them in August, they said I needed a referral from my GP because it had been over a year since I’d seen Dr. Dorscheid. It was their fault, but I had to get the referral. Well, I got it, and today when I called, they said I would have to wait six to seven months for an appointment. I was shocked and dismayed.
I appealed to the receptionist, explaining the urgency of my breathing problem, and she advised me to contact Sue, my respiratory therapist. I wrote her a long email and sent it off and now I wait.
When Jake opened the stove, he found a disconnected wire, so one of the burners wasn’t working because of the disconnection. The disconnection was the fault of the fucking Barron’s guy who came to fix my stove with one burner gone. When the Barron’s guy left, two burners weren’t working, and now I know why. When Jake and Noor left, my freezer and my stove were working like new again. I am absolutely over the moon to have both appliances working. It feels like a miracle.
Once all the workmen were gone, I fed the brood and then, because of the gorgeous weather, I decided to take Sheba for a long early afternoon walk while the sun was high and warm. When we left the house, it was a decent 10°. And when I got home, there was an email from Sue at St. Paul’s that brought tears of relief to my eyes.
“I am sorry you are having difficulties arranging your annual follow-up appointment with Dr. Dorscheid. I have spoken with Vivian McGie who is the clerical supervisor for the Pacific Lung Clinic, and she is working on getting you an appointment with Dr. Dorscheid as soon as possible.”
Thank God for Sue!
My evening was euphoric. I was blissfully happy to have all the burners on my stove working, the freezer spotlessly clean of ice and frost, a new large mouse pad supporting my computer work (my old one had been causing me problems for months), and a very, very clean and tidy house. I cleaned all the windows yesterday.
My brain wants everything in order. Now, I think it is happy, mostly because of Sue’s wonderful email. My problem with breath is either my lungs or my heart, and now I have both a pulmonologist and a cardiologist partner elping me. Woo hoo!
The evening, of course, was spent as usual. I love my night’s alone with a movie, the pets and last night there were cookies to celebrate everything being in order.
Today has dawned rather dark, but Her Highness and I will walk in the forest with our friends before enjoying a day of puttering after so busy a day yesterday. I do, however, have plans to do some painting in my bathroom so that every day some progress in the maintenance of Pinecone Park is achieved.
