Slow Days

Sunday was very wet. The rain wasn’t heavy, but it was constant. We went for a morning walk which was short, but it was still a pleasure. I had a good coat on to repel the rain, and rubber boots, but being Sunday, My Day, I did something new on my pleasure day, my day without “shoulds” or “musts.” I wore sweatpants all day, even to go to the market to shop. What joy to be so warm and comfortable. I may make every Sunday sweatpants day.

In the afternoon, I had a nap, but I was awakened by a constant tap, tap, tapping which I assumed was Sheba’s tail bumping against the wall as he wagged it in her sleep. But no, she was on the bed. But when I went into the bedroom, I knew what it was, it was a Woodpecker drilling into one of the logs of my house. So, I ventured outside quietly to see the wood worker, and there were two of them, but they were Flickers.

The rain stopped late in the day, so we were able to walk in the afternoon without getting wet. When we got home, the sun was out briefly. Our atmospheric river has run dry.

Monday began with a lovely long walk under a bright sky, but it’s still a challenge for me to walk as far as we did, and with the gentle hills of the trail challenging me. I loved getting home and into the warmth of the house heated by the fire. Oh, how good it felt. Meanwhile, Henri was working on the gardens.

Came by yesterday to work in the gardens. I appreciate having Henri as my gardener because he comes and gets busy on his own. He sees things that he can do, and he does them. Yesterday, he was cleaning up the beds, making them look nice and clean. Because of fatigue from the walk, I crashed onto the chaise.

I went over to Dave and Ursula’s to see how the kitchen installation was progressing. Dave hopes to get the electrical hooked up this week, and maybe the plumbing next week. When those jobs are done, the home is habitable, but it will take a while longer to finish everything required to be done to obtain an occupancy permit.

Th evening was as every evening goes: movies and some television. But I went to bed early and awoke this morning to rain. Quel surprise! The best thing about mornings now, is lighting the fire.
