Here Come the Blueberries!

And so, it begins! Here come the blueberries. I couldn’t resist picking these first few that have matured. The coming week is predicted to be dry and hot after (hopefully) rain tonight and tomorrow, so I should be getting a large daily harvest later this week and on the weekend.

Tuesday began with a full morning agenda. First, I stripped my bed and got all my bedding washed and out onto the line. I had to get this done early because rain is predicted for mid-afternoon. Then I left for the lab at 7:20 and when I got there, expecting to be the only person waiting to get in, there were three people there already waiting and it didn’t open until 8:00! But I got all my tests done and I was out of there at 9:20.

Afterwards, I went shopping and then came home for my session with Dr. Shoja. I had done my homework, so I had things to say, and the session was, as always, exhausting but uplifting at the same time. And once done, I went outside to join Peter who’d come over to sand parts of my deck where there is paint peeling.

Pete was here until 3:30. I paid him with a dark chocolate bar, and then it was time to chill. I’d had a busy day and my sessions with Dr. S. are always draining; I was ready for the couch.

It clouded over gradually over the course of the day. There were a couple of short light showers before I went to bed to ‘pray’ for rain. And it wasn’t hot, still my feet were wide enough to allow me to start selling advertising on them. I Googled compression socks, but you must make an appointment to buy them, and it also means going back to Nanaimo twice—once for the fitting and then to fetch them.

Achievement of the day: Borrowing Ali’s hair dryer and using it to fix the gasket on my freezer. I had an air leak and frost was building up. This morning, I checked my work: better but still slightly leaking air into the freezer. Damn. But it’s better and I’ll have another go with the drier next week.

It rained overnight. Hooray!! And it’s still overcast and there may be more showers. We are off to Nanaimo with no worries about fading plants or Sheba being too hot in the car. I’m dreading these breathing tests I’m in for. They are going to have me inhale deeply and then push all the air out of my lungs, and that makes me cough like mad. There are several tests, but that one is the worst. I’m very happy to be getting these tests before my appointment with Dr. Dorscheid on the 23rd. Now, all I need is to hear from Julie that it’s time for my Tezspire training.

Hi Chris. I've struggled on and off at various times with lower leg and foot edema, more often in the summer but at other times. I've been using compression socks whenever I have a flareup. You can get them in the drug store, but also online, or oddly enough in the BC Ferries store when I go over to the mainland. They have some really snazzy ones there. The brand name is Sockwell. I sometimes just park my car and go over to Horseshoe Bay for a free mini excursion. It's a nice little outing and during the week, free for seniors. Anyway, I usually put on the socks at night and the next morning, my feet are back to normal. Once they are back to normal, it's usually a while till it flares up again. But unless you have some kind of major problem, you should be able to do this. My feet have at times been much worse than what I saw from your photos. But I was alarmed the first time it happened just over ten years ago. Now I know what to do about it. And if you only wear the socks when you have a flare up, they will last for a very long time, easily 10 years. Hope this helps. Your berries are looking fabulous as is your entire property.
