Bat Alert; Back on Prednisone

We’re in for a big change in the weather. It’s time for rain gear and indoor living. The weather is predicted to change today and starting tomorrow nothing except rain is forecast for five days! This will be the first serious rain since April. It will take some getting used to, not being outside all day, every day.

I awoke excited, anticipating the dinner I would make myself last evening. I got myself some huge prawns, and I’m going to have them on an Asian salad that I am going to serve my guests next week. I made the dressing yesterday and left it for a day to season as recommended, and tonight I’ll have it on my salad.

There were clouds yesterday morning. They were welcome because it meant I might not have to water the garden beds. Yesterday was a busy day. I had two Zoom calls scheduled for the morning and baking to do in the afternoon. The most important call was with Dr. Dorscheid to talk about how things are going with Tezspire.

I’m going back on prednisone. I’m taking it for a week. Dr. Dorscheid said that having had three Tezspire shots, the drug is now at a therapeutic level in my body, so going back on prednisone will bring me the relief it brought last time, and Tezspire should hold me at that level. It all sounds good to me. I love prednisone, but it means a very low day three days after I stop taking it.

It remained cloudy and cool all day until 14:30, when it got brighter as the clouds thinned but didn’t disburse. It made being inside baking Di’s birthday cake easier to take. I made my fourth roll-up meringue cake, and this one is far and away the best one that I’ve made. The challenge is getting the parchment paper on which it is baked, peeled off after the baking. Yesterday, it came off without tearing the meringue anywhere. I was chuffed!

While the meringue cooled, I took Her Highness to Rollo Park to play fetch. She loves playing fetch, but she can’t sustain it in the warm weather. She was thrilled to be back at Rollo, squealing with delight as we turned into the park. But it sure tires me out. I walk deathly slow and still I get pooped. But today: prednisone! Yay!

Last night, I watched the CBC documentary about Lillith Fair. At that time, in the late 1990s, I was friendly with Sarah McLachlan through her best friend Crystal. The things I could tell you! I went to the shake down concerts and the first dry run at UBC Thunderbird Stadium. It was such a blast. A highlight was going to LA with Sarah during one of the tours. I learned a lot of things I didn’t know then and saw flashes of many things I remember vividly.

And now it’s Friday again. Time goes by so incredibly quickly, and this morning began with some shocks: I weighed myself and learned that I’m down 14 pounds, there was dew like precipitation gently floating down when I went out for wood, and there was a bat in my shed flying around when I turned on the lights and started making noise.

I’m chuffed about losing 14 pounds in the past month. My goal was twenty pounds, so I’m getting close. Between losing the weight and buying the heel lifts for my shoes, I’m hoping walking is soon to be less painful.

This morning, Sheba goes in for a grooming, and when she’s done, we’re going to a dog and people party for our dog walking group at Stacy’s house where we’ll celebrate Di’s 87th birthday, and toast Otis, Stacy’s dog who recently passed away.
