Saturday began, for me, with a spa. It was only 13° outside, so the spa felt wonderfully warm. It’s fabulous in the silent mornings to be so cozy warm and to hear the morning avian chorus. Her Highness and I went for a long walk on a new trail afterwards, and it was euphoric to be outside on such a beautiful and fragrant morning.
We had lunch and then we went into the village to do a little shopping, and then we went to the nursery to get some soil with which to top up two of the new beds I made last year. When we got back, I fried some shallots to see how good a job I could do, and I was satisfied with what I did, so I will do more to use with the Asian salad I make for dinner when Kris, Steve and Nancy come here in early October.
I haven’t made and served a dinner here for well over a year. When guests come, we go out. That’s what I did with Steve, Paula and Bruce. Entertaining always brought on seizures, so I decided to quit. But I’m worried about Winter, as I wrote the other day. I’m worried reading will not work for me as happened late last Spring. I was too restless to read, and if that is still the case, baking is a great way to pass time.
So, the dinner with Kris, Steve and Nancy is a test. If all goes well, great, but even if it doesn’t and I have a seizure, I might pass some time this winter entertaining friends. Reading is passive; baking is active and I seem to like being active all the time.
Once the shallots were laid out to dry after frying them, I went out to work in the garden. I added soil to the two beds and then I started cleaning up the shed. It was in a very messy state after a Summer of me throwing things here and there and thinking, I’ll put that away properly tomorrow. But I never did any follow up. Now, however, I’d be proud to serve dinner in there. It’s perfectly tidy!
Then, it was time to walk Her Highness, and then to call it a day. We did a short walk because we did a long one in the morning when my left foot is stronger. For the next while, my afternoon walks are going to be short.
When we got home, it was time for the usual: dinner and a movie. But last night we enjoyed a treat—a nice evening fire. Oh, it felt good to be warm inside the house. The nights are getting chilly and so the house gets quite cool, so little fires in the morning or evening or both are becoming more regular.

There was rain last night, so I don’t have to water today. Yipeee! I’m going to Zoom with my BC stuttering group. I haven’t joined a session with them since May, and I miss them. It’s back to being sunny again, of course. This Summer may never end. Actually, that’s unlikely; the weather is predicted to change on Thursday, but Environment Canada has been wrong about rain often lately. Today was predicted to be cloudy and wet, but there ain’t a cloud in the sky!
