Saturday began so eerily. The treetops were lost in the fog of clouds that hung low in the sky, and it was mildly windy. However, I sensed hope for the day as time slowly passed because I the sky started getting lighter at 7:00. I was relieved because I wanted to get all the bark under cover before the rain comes.
I had a nice warm house in which to pass the early morning hours because of the fire I’d lit Friday night. The beautiful thick logs that form my walls are excellent insulation as well as being beautiful. And I was cheerful because I didn’t have to water any of the garden beds today after the dousing I gave everything on Friday. Besides, rain was predicted for the evening.
By 9:00, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Her Highness and I went for a walk in the 707 Park and then I came home to tote bark and stack it. I feel lucky to have noticed this unfinished work from the Spring, and glad to have secured it under the roof of the new shed Grayson adapted for me.
It was easy work, really: load up a barrow full of bark, wheel it just a short distance, and then stack it. But after each barrow load was stacked, I was arching my back to lessen my backpain. I can’t believe the change in me in so short a time. I’d have to rest after every six or seven barrow loads. Because I was doing physical labour, I had a light breakfast.
It was clear to me that I’d be able to move all the bark by lunchtime. I decided to not eat until the bark was all stacked. My post-lunch task was moving all the outdoor furniture into the studio for the Winter. I left two nice chairs on the deck for when friends drop by. They’ll go in later in the Fall. But before moving the furniture, I took a nap in the sunshine. It thrills my soul to soak up the sun’s warmth. I love sunbathing at this time of year.
Colleen caught me napping and called me into her yard. She was harvesting pears. They are very small, but they are de-licious! She gave me a basket full that I cut, cleaned and put into freezer bags and into the freezer for my Winter baking. Yum!
Once all the furniture was put away, Her Highness and I went for our afternoon walk along the Elder Cedar trail. When we got back to the car, I let Sheba into the back, and I climbed into the driver’s seat and collapsed onto my side with fatigue. I was completely burned out, so I had a wee rest and then came home to take in the laundry, and I was done with chores for the day.

Today, as promised, we have precipitation. It would be an exaggeration to call it rain, but at least the ground is wet and if this angelic piss lasts all day, I’ll be very happy. I have a small fire going and that pleases me a lot. I feel cosy on a day when indoors is where I want to be. Our morning walk was short and relatively quick. I’m very happy: I’m dry and warm and it’s My Day and its choral music morning on the CBC.
