I got all the backyard garden beds watered yesterday before we went walking with our friends on a beautiful, beautiful morning. I’m feeling desperate for rain, but these endless sunny days have been incredible because I’m outside all day puttering around the gardens and watering. What a Summer we’ve had!
When we got home, I went to Nancy’s to change the air filters in my car. She did it, but she showed me how to do it myself in the future. She also has done a lot of work for me researching tires. I’m going to Cedar, just south of Nanaimo, today to get the tires. I want to go on a sunny dry day, and I want to get this done. Next challenge is getting the brakes done.
Once we all had lunch, it was time to water the edible garden and the front beds and all the trees. It was easy to do because I knew that I had the rest of afternoon to chill and to walk with Sheba. And … I had dinner to look forward to with Eoin, François and Jay at Jay’s house. We’re christening his new dining room table.
When the watering was all done, I had a nap in dappled sunshine that was exquisite. I loved the warmth of the sun on my body. It’s as good as the hot tub for inducing total relaxation. I’ve been busy all day every day for ages. It felt good to have an afternoon off.
If I go to Cedar today, I hope that I get back in time to do more chores around the garden. I see little transplanting jobs that I want to do, and I want to refresh some beds with soil and compost. Also, I want to do some tidying in the studio and shed because I plan to put my fuchsias and geraniums in there over the Winter.
At 2:00, Her Highness and I went for a walk. Walking Sheba is increasingly unpleasant. My breathing is challenged, my left foot hurts due to the lump, and now my right hip, that has once-in-a-while shot searing pain through me, is becoming more and more painful, more and more often. Fucking ageing!
When we got home, I had a healing spa, floating in the water taking weight off my foot and hip. Oh, the joy of the warm water, but it got very dark as clouds moved in, and it felt like rain was coming. I prayed that it would hold off until I got the cake safely into Jay’s house.
We assembled at Jay’s at 5:00. He’s on two oxygen compressors and he’s tethered to miles of plastic tubing that lets him wander all over the main floor while attached to the compressors. We marveled at the decorating Jay’s done in his new home, and we christened his new dining room table. It was his birthday yesterday, but he hadn’t foretold us, so it was a big surprise. I was thrilled that I’d brought a cake.
We had a wonderful time together, Eoin, Jay, François and I, and as always happens, when it is time to go, I speed home to be reunited with Sheba. I hate being apart from her, but with Jay’s tubing, I didn’t want her with us in case she bit the tube.
I went to bed exhausted, but unable to sleep. Eventually, of course, I fell asleep, but I was wide awake again at 4:00 because I decided that Her Highness and I would go to Cedar on the 7:05 ferry.
