Friday was a challenging day.
The day dawned overcast, but it wasn’t raining, wasn’t terribly dark and it was quite warm. It was 12° in the afternoon. There was some brightness in the eastern sky when the sun rose. I hate highway driving in the rain, so I was happy to see no precipitation on my afternoon in Nanaimo to see Julien.
But first, we walked with our friends through the paths and lakes of the Windecker trail. I asked to walk there because, although it can be very wet on the ground, it is flat and there is a short loop as well as a long loop. Sheba and I always take the short loop now.
Then we came home for lunch and to get all we needed together for our afternoon ferry ride. This is when things started to go a bit sour. It was surprisingly busy at the ferry terminal. I’d planned on catching the 11:30 ferry, going to do my shopping and then meeting Julien at 2:40 at the restaurant, but there were too many people. Consequently, I did not get on the ferry. We left our car in place and went for a long walk together, then we were loaded onto the ferry at 12:50.
When we got to the other side, I did a bit of shopping before going to the restaurant, but Julien didn’t arrive until almost 3:00. Sitting alone in the restaurant was nasty because I worried that I’d come on the wrong day. When things don’t go as planned, I worry it’s my fault. Julien’s mom and stepdad arrived just before he did, so we had a truly lovely visit, but it was short.
I left at 4:00 because I wanted to get important pet supplies before coming home and it was a bit of a haul to get to Walmart which was crazy busy. The line up for self-checkout was miles long and, by the time I got to the ferry terminal, I was too late for the 5:40 ferry, so more waiting.
We were on board and chugging our way home at 6:20, and we got home just before 7:00. I Was flat out exhausted. I fed the pets, lit a fire and had a delicious sushi dinner that I’d bought at Thrifty Foods. I was in bed shortly after 8:00 and I slept like I was unconscious until 6:00 this morning.
Today is overcast, duh. There is naught but rain in the forecast. I lit a big roaring morning fire, and we will walk later, but today is a day to chill. Days like yesterday absolutely wipe me out. I look forward to reading by the fire and feeling that wonderful ‘I don’t have to do anything’ feeling.
