A Curious Neighbour

Sunday was beautiful and sunny in the morning and after 2:00 pm, but in between, it clouded over, and I had no mojo for doing work. I’m dying to clean the hot tub and get it filled, but at the same time, I’m not going to push myself unless I feel up to it. We’ve naught but sunshine in the forecast, so I’m certain to get it done this week.

We enjoyed a glorious morning walk, full of birdsong and sweet, sweet fragrances, and we went to Rollo Park in the afternoon to play fetch. At 3:30, Pete arrived with his lawn mower, and he mowed my weed fields/lawns. I paid him in wood rounds that Grayson will cut for Pete to use as stepping stones in part of his garden. Grayson arrived at four and my swooning got underway.

It was a delightful 15° in the afternoon, so being outside was joyful. There is a lot of work to be done, and I’m keen to do it, but I want to be warm when I am outside. I’ve all the lawns to rake. There are billions of cones and twigs covering the entire yard. But the yard and gardens are starting to look pretty good, and with the sunshine and warm temperatures of this week, they should really take off.

Last evening, I watched The Life of Pi on the National Theatre streaming service, and oh my God, what a show. I was totally engrossed in it and blown away by all the projections and puppetry—very Julie Taymore. But I got so much more from the show than I ever got from the book. In the last scene, Pi askes the insurance representative which story he likes better, the one with the animals or the one without, and the insurance man says, “The one with the animals.” And Pi says something like, “That is God.”

He's saying that the bible stories and the story of God serves the same purpose for mankind as his story of the animals serves him. His animal story accounts for his experience, but it takes away the pain of recounting the facts. I just loved the play.

It’s another beauty of a day. It’ll be wonderful this afternoon, but the mornings are still chilly. Grayson returns today, but probably not till late in the day. We’re coming to the end of the wood harvesting project, and just in time. Last night, my neighbour, Coleen, was out in the forest talking with Grayson and questioning all he was doing. I harvested some wood which was not mine to take, but the tree was dead and down. Colleen is very pro First Nations, and she sees me as having stolen from them. Trouble could be coming. She knows the caretaker of the land and may report me. Whatever.
