Everyone Wants My Money

Oh, what a day yesterday was! It was a go, go, go day until 16:00 when I slid slowly and very, very happily into the spa.

I rose at 5:30 to get an early start on the many things I wanted to do before taking Paula to the seaplane dock. I did a laundry and hung it out on the line. I love handing up laundry outdoors. I just love it. I think it’s because it was a job I had as a kid and doing it, I often caught the attention of my beloved Mr. Jackson who lived next door.

Then I had dishes to do and recycling to do because yesterday was garbage day. And then I watered the front yard bed and all the trees, the edible garden and the Virginia Creeper. Then we left early for Silva Bay so that we could walk around and chat while Sheba got some exercise before out trip to Nanaimo for the new fobs for my car.

After saying good-bye to Paula, I bombed to the ferry terminal to see if I should try to make it over to the big island in the morning—which is what I wanted to do. But if the line-up was too long, I planned to turn around and head home for lunch and then go over mid-afternoon. But the line-up was short. We were in the locksmith’s store by noon.

After I had my new fobs (hooray!), I headed to the grocery store for just a few supplies and then I was back in the line-up for home at 12:35. The ferry left at 13:00 and we were home in no time. I had a nap in the sunshine, and oh it felt good. And then Her Highness and I went to Elder Cedar to walk, and when we got home is when I slid into the spa. I was totally exhausted. Going to Nanaimo always does that to me.

It seems I may have reached the movie saturation point. I can’t seem to engage with anything anymore, so I wind up playing solitaire and scrolling through the Internet or just watching episodes of Grand Designs on YouTube, and then I go to bed early.  I slept for a miraculous nine hours last night.

I got an email from the local automotive shop. I took my car in for an oil change, and they told me things needed doing. Yesterday their email listed the things I needed, and they provided the cost of doing each job. The total bill is for $4,200.

The dealership where I bought the car, recently wrote to me about getting a new car and they quoted me a trade-in value for my car of two grand. If the car is only worth that, paying twice that amount for repairs seems stupid. Neighbour Nancy is a serious researcher. It was Nancy who saved me $400 on my new fob. She has directed me to Cedar Tires for an alternate quote on the tires. I plan to do at least one of the things required at our local shop to keep my relations with them in good shape, but I’m going to get competitive quotes on all the other things.

And I’m going to cancel buying a cord of wood from Grayson who was charging a rather steep price. I’m feeling overwhelmed by the cost of things. This bill had come when my car insurance is due, and they raised their premium by $400. I feel like I’m drowning.

Today I can chill. I must take the car in to have the wheels torqued. That’s all that’s required of me today—that, and some spot watering. I’m hoping for a nice slow day with lovely walks with Her Highness.

Beautiful photos! Goodness, cars and their upkeep are so expensive these days! I am so glad I have never had a car and use public transit. (I am 68 and retired, living in Montreal, Canada).
Thank you so much for sharing, I just found your blog today and wanted to leave you a comment. :)
