WET!

Saturday was one very wet day. There was also a lot of low cloud giving a blue look to the mist in the treetops. It was not a day that beckoned us outside quickly. Instead, I put up a shelf in the kitchen (I gave myself a C grade) and did a lot of cleaning and tidying before I showered and then took Hout for her morning walk. It was short.

I wanted to be back by 11:00 to Zoom with my friend, Nicola. We hadn’t chatted for a very long time, which was unusual, but she moved to Nova Scotia in the Summer, and I got sidelined by my breathing complications and didn’t arrange for a Zoom together. But she wasn’t there when I opened Zoom, and I had further proof that my brain is fading. Our plan is to talk on Monday, not yesterday.

By noon, after being in constant motion since 5:00 am, I was bushed. With my glasses and my books due in the mail, I could not read to relax, so I got myself comfortable on the chaise, opened the TV and fell quickly asleep. The sound of the radio or television on quietly, lulls me into slumber.

In the afternoon, I watched National Theatre’s production of Nye, starring the spectacular Michael Sheen. I loved it; I love the National Theatre. And although I’m not one for daytime television, this show was just the ticket for a dark and damp day without my glasses and book.

Then we went into the village for some groceries, before going for a walk and then coming home to feed the brood before going to Eoin and François’ for dinner. And dinner, plus being with my boys, was heavenly. We hadn’t been together since early August. It was the longest gap in our friendship since we became friends.

We had such a good time. We never lacked for things to discuss, especially as Jay has sold his huge French manor and bought a new home on one level. He sold his place fully furnished, so he must buy new furniture before he can have us over to his new place, and he is doing a vast renovation of the place.

Sadly, when it came time to leave, Jay backed his jeep into a deep ditch, so as I departed, François was starting up one of their tractors to pull the jeep back onto the road. It felt so good to come home. I never want to be anywhere else. We went directly to bed and had a deep, long sleep.

Today is wet, wet, wet. I have a large fire going and I am looking forward to My Day without any other people. The pets and I will have a warm and cosy day together.
