Order Restored @ 11:00

Damn! At 8:00 yesterday morning, the Internet went out, The power had been out since 5:30, but the Internet was working until it stopped at 8:00, so I lost access to the Hydro outage map where people can see the estimated time of repair to the damage called by a falling tree. However, soon it was easy to see in the house because there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the day was beautiful, bright and cold (3°).

I couldn’t shower so I had a sponge bath with cold water. It wasn’t ideal on so cold a morning! I loved seeing the sunshine hit the tops of the trees, turning them into golden beacons and promising a beautiful day. And slowly, as I got ready to walk, the sunlight crept down the trees until Pinecone Park had welcome sunshine lighting up the yard. In Winter, the sun is low and fills the house with light.

Power outages are much easier to take during the day. I hate it when the outage disrupts my evenings. And I have new protocols: I must recharge my watch and phone; they give me more reason to love my generator. Once my watch had charged enough, we went for our walk and to fetch gasoline to keep the generator going.

Two blocks from the house, at an intersection, I was able to get a text message to Aidan asking him to let Ezra know about the power failure. I had a Zoom call scheduled with them for 14:00. However, I was also able to get to the Hydro outage map, and it seemed to be saying that we’d have power again as of 11:00, so we went into the village to shop and refill one gasoline jerrycan. When we came home, passing by Dave’s house on Buttercup, I saw his Christmas lights on, so I knew we had our power back.

It was great to come home to restored order. When I turned on my computer and went to Facebook, I was alerted to responses to my loving posts about Don Fletcher. His son answered my message and confirmed that he had been at my play where I honored them. I read all the very, very many tributes to Don. He was loved by everybody. What a proud legacy he leaves! But oh, how I have been crying.

I got the fridge back in place, all the extension cords back in the shed, and turned the generator off. There was an incredible storm in the night. I heard about it on the news, and there was forest fall all over the streets. The Hydro outage map is all red circles all over the lower mainland, Sechelt, the big island and our Gulf Islands. We were lucky to get our power back so quickly.

With all the cleanup done, I was wasted. It drains me when things go wrong. What I wanted was a spa. Instead, Her Highness and I went for a walk through the Elder Cedar grove. The creek was thundering. It was almost covering the stones that walkers use to ford it. I had to fetch a long pole to steady myself as we crossed.

The evening was the usual pleasures: dinner, a movie and bedtime.

Today, I Zoom with Aidan in the morning, and I bake bread in the afternoon. I will also do a few chores. I’m enjoying doing projects like the pantry, getting things in good shape for Paula’s Christmas visit.
