Tuesday's Walk

The church (I  love church architecture) on
Squamish Band land in North Vancouver.

Dry flowers I have picked on walks.
I got the yellow today.

I walked from the North Van Seabus terminal to the Lion's Gate Bridge, over the bridge, down to the seawall, along the seawall to Banana Leaf on Robson at Denman for lunch, to the aquarium store (at Terry Fox Plaza) and them home. It was a long, long walk and all I could do was think about moving.

I am going to try to stay close to the seawall. It is such an important part of my life. On the wall you are alone but not alone. I realized today, too, that I can live happily on a busy street. It is something to look at and the sound of it means you are not alone.

Spicing Up My LIfe

Another Pride celebration and another visit from the LA posse is over and now the denouement of summer begins. Rain is predicted for the next two days, although it is stunning yet again today but Pride weekend is like that day on vacation when you realize that soon you have to go home and back to work. In no time, Labour Day will be here and then the Fall equinox.

And I have my project for the winter: Moving. And maybe more than once. Come September, I will put this wonderful, perfect condo of mine up for sale as the first step toward moving and it is breaking my heart. In order to feel better about it, I have decided to remove my ideal spice rack I had built for this place and take it with me. It cost a fortune to have built and I designed it for this space, but I can adapt it to wherever I go (I hope).

Pride 2015

Calm. I long for it. Pride happens outside my windows. (The shots, above, though are outside of Bruce's windows.) I am very proud and happy that the celebration occurs and I love the parade. But it is exhausting with Mr. Party, my ex, setting the pace.

And the spell is broken. I absolutely love this condo—more than ever since I found out about all the developments coming to my immediate proximity. Now, when I look at my paradise, I know it is going to be ruined and I know I have to move.

For now though, I must cook as much as I can in this perfect kitchen and enjoy every minute left.

Reward

I am SO SO proud of this and seeing my name on a cheque for a "scenario" called Uncle Gu(s' Monkey). Getting it feels as good as getting a badge at cubs or a college diploma. You have to celebrate your successes.

And also yesterday, the federal government matched the funding from the municipality and the province to that the new Presentation House Gallery (that I founded) can begin construction next year. It will be built on the waterfront right beside the seabus terminal.

Today's Party

The place is already for Steve's party here today at noon.

Having just gone through emotional hell over the realization that I am going to lose my spectacular view to a new building and then the additional hell of seeing the choices available to move to (and the cost of living in style to which I aspire), I have to ask myself: Why would I leave this place?

I will lose the view in my office but still have a bit from the living room and I will always have light. Light is essential. I am addicted to it.

Where I spend 82% of my time.
My favourite room!

Pride Weekend

It is Pride weekend; a long weekend in BC. Monday is a holiday in BC and all weekend temperatures are predicted to remain in the mid-twenties—ideal summer weather.

Last night there was a massive street party right outside my place (see above). It was a roaring success and the first one under new relaxed liquor rules. In the past, those who drank had to remain in caged enclosures. It was ridiculous. Now people can drink and mix on the street. It was a fabulous party and I went to sleep listening to it. It did not disturb me at all.

Today at noon, friends of dearly departed Chris Adkins will assemble here at my house to remember him. He always hosted a Pride lunch on the day before the Pride Parade so my ex, Steve, is hosting a remembrance lunch here.

Tonight there is a massive fireworks display on in English Bay.

Tomorrow I will take in the Pride parade. I will watch it from Bruce’s balcony; it’s on and above the route.

I have written here often about my projects—about the projects themselves and their component parts and about the role my projects have played in my life. And after Trudeau, I was almost horrified to conclude that I did them for attention. That realization made me want to stop.

But if I stop, I have nothing to obsess about and so I obsess about how I am living my life and that is not good all the time. So it’s back to thinking about a project.
